They call the hour before sunrise ‘blue-hour’ as the sky transforms from an inky black to a brilliant royal blue. This is a time of day where you can get lost in time watching the sky slowly change colours, welcoming the new sunrise. This is a special time, it’s quiet and shows our world bathed in a unique light that many never experience. On this early summers morning I woke up at 4am to start my journey down the coast from Melbourne, watching as the stars flickered amongst the patchy cloud. I knew this sunrise would be special and as I sat on the foreshore alone in the night the show began, a silent movie of colour transformation and dancing light reflecting off the water. This photographs simplicity and complementary colours take me straight back to that morning, the smells, the sounds and the warm breeze blowing across the beach.
