Starburst effects tutorial – Making stars of the lights!

MattKrumins Tutorials

Whether shooting towards the sun or doing long exposures with streetlights in the city light bursts that look the stars are incredibly eye-catching and are really simple to create with this simple trick!

Process
  • Pop your camera into aperture priority mode
  • Change your aperture to around f/16 (this creates a smaller hole)
  • If you are shooting in low light you will need a tripod as the small aperture will result in longer shutter speeds. If you are shooting towards the sun this won’t be necessary
  • Shoot your image! If you want more of a star effect, change your aperture to f/22
