TRAVEL & STREET PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

3 hour session, max 6ppl

In my eyes, street and travel photography isn’t all about settings and theory, it’s about knowing your camera well enough to achieve the look you are going for without taking on so much that it slows you down. This workshop is really about learning to be creative and showing people the world around them in ways they have never seen before. It’s about sparking imaginations, transporting people to another place and capturing the atmosphere rather than just pictures of ‘things’. This street & travel photography workshop is for anyone who loves taking photos and sharing stories, be it of their travels abroad or right here at home!

With a team of just 6 participants these photography workshops keep things fun, taking the stuffiness out of photography, and keeping things relatable. My goal is simple, to help you understand your photography using analogies, stories and confidence building techniques. There is plenty of one-on-one attention with personalised learning for your specific camera model, experience level and photography goals.

Following your workshop you will be invited to join the Matt Krumins Photography Course Collective Facebook group, giving you a safe and productive environment to continue your photography growth through peer and instructor feedback.

This exclusive small-group workshop is your chance to revolutionise the way you see compositions and capture your images leaving you with inspiration to go out and photograph the world through fresh eyes!

Over 1500 students have completed my group and one-on-one workshops, hear what they had to say – Reviews.

“I signed up for Street & Travel Photography workshop in Melbourne, and have to say it was one of the most engaging workshops I’ve done. Matt is very light hearted and you can see his genuine desire to help improve your photography, no matter your experience level.”Adrian R

FAQs

Your 3 hour walking travel & street photography workshop has a limit of just 6 people giving you plenty of one-on-one instruction as well as personal attention relevant to your camera brand and model.

Also, I believe that photography concepts take practice and time so at the conclusion of your workshop you will be invited to an exclusive online support group where you can continue to grow your photography alongside other workshop participants!

Awesome! In travel & street photography rain is actually an incredible thing giving us amazing reflections to use in our photographs. That said, if we are experiencing significant rain we will postpone our workshop by offering a voucher code for you to re-book on a workshop at your convenience! I always recommend bringing a waterproof jacket as even on a sunny day Melbourne can show it’s unique ability to change on a dime!
In photography we never stop learning, so whether you are an enthusiast photographer or or a complete beginner, my small course size will give you plenty of one-on-one attention to ensure new ideas and concepts can be tailored to your experience level!
These workshops are about how to see things rather than purely looking at the camera itself, so what you really need is a camera! That’s it! Most camera these days have access to Program mode and for those with Aperture and Shutter priority modes we will be exploring these as well. If you’re just starting out this is the perfect time to get to know the ins and outs of your new camera and get off Auto mode without getting into the technical stuff and if you’re more experienced I’ll be guiding you through how to get the most from your settings. Tripods are not needed for this workshop.

Thanks Matt's for the Night photography class - it was excellent. I learnt a great deal and found how certain camera tricks can spruce up a dull image. The class was enjoyable with a small group size. Matt has a neat way of explaining things and is always ready to help. Highly recommend.

The mind is not an empty vessel to be filled, according to the great Roman historian Tacitus. He thought it was more like a fire waiting to be kindled. Precisely the approach a natural teacher the calibre of photographer Matt Krumins takes with his students. After three hours of tuition with Matt and in the convivial company of five other students we toured the environs of the Melbourne zoo and came away wanting more. Matt's conversational style tuition ensures you don't get hung up on your camera or photographic theory. Most of us delay taking a camera course because we are daunted by our camera's abundant settings. Matt imparts all the basic building blocks camera newbies require. More than enough to get you started on your photographic journey. But not just any building blocks. These are well chosen for their simplicity but with an eye to the future. They are the fundamentals you'll need to imbibe others more advanced. So they're essential. As for theory, Matt believes a little is great to get you going, but practise is better. So we went from enclosure to enclosure effortlessly taking in what is required for a "good" photograph and snapped away. Confident now with basic camera program settings, we listened for his experienced tips for the best shot outcomes. "Animals are creatures of habit and highly territorial,'' Matt advised at the tiger enclosure. Good nature photographers know this and work out the stomping ground of their animal and try to predict where they'll appear. So they'll already have their composition worked out before the animal arrives.'' At the Leema enclosure we were asked to observe this creature's grotesque hands. Cute animal but the hands stand out by their lack of empathetic cuteness. The Butterflys were as beautiful as they were fragile. Who would have thought that capturing their eyes would make for a great photograph. And as for the Elephants... "How many pictures of elephants show their size and gait?" Matt asked. And how many hone in an elephant's eye lashes? And this kind of close shot, generally gives you the animal's skin texture as well. Much more interesting photograph..." So it went for the three hours as the "doing" prevailed over theory. By the end of the session this friendly group was inspired to start getting creative with their cameras and to take their imagination off the leash. So glad I decided not to put off a basic camera course because I felt daunted by my camera's high tech settings. Even happier I took the punt to enrol in one of Matt's courses. I look forward to the next one.

I have now attended a private workshop and the Melbourne Zoo workshop and both were fantastic. The private workshop was very comprehensive and full of information, but I felt like I learnt even more going to the Zoo because I was practicing what I was learning. I am now registered to attend the Lightroom Course to hopefully bring out the best in my photos. Matt is great teacher and I would highly recommend his classes, no matter what level you're at.

I attended my first ever workshop with Matt today and WOW just WOW. He made sure everything was easy to understand and related everything back to a simple easy remembered topic (fencing palings anyone). The small group atmosphere was awesome. Matt ensured all of us was given one on one time and again he didnt rush or push. He has a wonderful sense of humour and just a down right easy going bloke. I will definately be doing more of Matts workshops. (PS was the best brithday present, thanks kids 🙂 )

It was great! Moved from automatic to P mode and learned to adjust light, color macro photography and composition by using the lens. Photographed lions in monochrome a 2 year old baboon. The framing made a big difference. Also discovered the Nikon p900 could not take raw files and felt cheated by the store that sold it to me.

Did my first photography workshop ever on Sunday morning at Melbourne Zoo with Matt, and had a amazing time. He is a wonderful and patient teacher, concepts taught are easy to understand, remember and put into practice. No pressure, lots of one on one help when needed and lots of fun. If you are thinking of doing a workshop don't hesitate in joining Matt on one of his, as I know I will be in the future.

Choosing a photography workshop is exciting and nerveracking. Nobody wants to look foolish and we want that shot. Mark is professional and easy going and provides the knowledge you need to know. I chose both the night photography and street photography workshops. Both showed how to simplify the photography process. While manual mode seemed like the most professional, I have captured my best night photography shots following Matt's valuable advice. One I will continue to follow and practise. There were many new tips and processes to but they were never hard to understand. Forget reading books or watching YouTube and just spend some hours with Matt. You won't regret it and will have an entertaing time learning new techniques. Was a very enjoyable experience.

I did Matt's Lightroom workshop and found it very informative. Matt is patient, explains everything in easy language. No question asked was too silly, and he patiently worked around the room to assist us all. As a complete beginner to Lightroom, I had never used it until the workshop, I had only installed it 2 days earlier. With Matt's teaching style and handouts I feel confident to give it a go at home now! Thanks Matt, I am looking forward to more workshops! I have also now completed Matt's Zoo workshop and Travel and Street Photography workshop in the last couple of weeks. Again Matt has a great way of breaking down the technical aspects into easy to understand concepts. Coupled with lots of time to put it all into practice, both workshops have been highly informative and I have come away with lots more knowledge, and keen to keep practising what I have learnt! He is patient and assists everyone on an individual level. I can't wait for the Macros workshop in the New Year! Thanks Matt.

Matt was a fantastic teacher. I really didn't know much about photography before the course but I walked away feeling way more confident. He used simple to understand analogies which I tend to learn well from. Would highly recommend taking one of his course that suit your level of skill or interest.

In my professional life my objective is to learn from the absolute best people. I spent three hours with Matt recently preparing for an upcoming dive trip - Matt has the great talent of taking complex topics and explaining them in practical and memorable ways. The processes he has developed to simplify the shooting process are excellent. I walked away extremely happy at having been helped by a master - someone who is the master of their craft but has also mastered the art of teaching it. I'll be taking more workshops with Matt. Thanks.
