MATT KRUMINS UNDERWATER PHOTOGRAPHY COURSE

Workshop is limited to 6 participants per trip

Underwater photography is a complex beast. You have to tackle poor lighting conditions, water clarity and fast moving animals, maintain buoyancy, trim and safe dive practices all whilst fiddling with camera settings and strobe positioning. Sounds difficult right?

What if I told you that it’s not as complex as it sounds? What if your settings were second nature and your strobe positioning just ‘made-sense’? That’s exactly what my self-written UW photography course is all about; simplifying techniques and complex settings to give you the tools you need to practice and grow your UW photography.

With years of experience including contributing to The UW Photography Guide, Scubashooters.net, Scuba Diver Magazine, Scuba Diver Australasia as representing Olympus Australia & Hong Kong in UW Photography, my goal is to simplify the complicated helping you transform your UW snaps into UW Art.

FAQs

Group Workshops:
Group underwater Photography Workshops and Courses are run at various times of the year through my affiliate dive centres. These dates can be found at the booking section at the bottom of this page. The theory session is generally held on a weeknight with the dive practicals held on a weekend day.

Full Day One-on-one workshops
Private full day underwater photography workshops are available Monday to Friday on the Mornington Peninsula. These days encompass the content from the group workshop but are targeted specifically at your needs, fast tracking you to great results. Please use the ‘Ask A Question’ window at the bottom of this page.

Underwater Camera Set-up Session
1, 2 and 3 hour one-on-one classroom workshops are available for those wanting to set their new camera rig up, get specific advice on next steps or advance their image editing skills for UW photography. Please use the ‘Ask A Question’ window at the bottom of this page.

In photography we never stop learning, so whether you are an enthusiast photographer or or a complete beginner, my small course size will give you plenty of one-on-one attention to ensure new ideas and concepts can be tailored to your experience level!
A lot of my workshops are about how to see things and understanding light rather than purely looking at the camera itself, so what you really need is a camera! That said you will benefit most if you have access to some manual settings as well as a video light or strobe.

Completed the Advanced Underwater photography course with Matt and can thoroughly recommend It. The whole learning experience was enjoyable and Matt has a way of making all aspects of photography easy to understand. Particularly helpful having his experience underwater, showing how to put the theory into practice. Will enjoy putting my new skills to the test!

Great under water workshop with Matt and Feet First Diving in Port Stephens this weekend. Matt was very well prepared and his lessons whilst being informal and easy to understand were very powerful. The practical sessions were fun and surprisingly interactive given the environment and I have plenty of food for thought as I progress with my uw photography. As usual the crew at Feet First Diving were very welcoming and helped make the weekend fun

I did the 3 day advanced under water course hosted at feet feet first diving. The course was brilliant. It covered everything I needed to learn in order to move forward with my photography. The subjects were broken down into segments, that were easy to digest, and the explanations were in both plain English, and technical speak. So much better to be able to relate the two, rather than just getting the easy version. It's incredible that so much information was transferred, and that I've been able to retain it. That speaks volumes on matt's ability to teach! The dives were great, even though visibility was poor. Matt was on hand, and ready to change settings and explain them after. All in all, it was a fantastic course that I would strongly recommend to anyone who wants to improve their underwater photography skills.

I did the one day seascape course with Matt around a week or so ago. I'd been taking photos for around 6 months prior to the course and mainly do seascapes and I'm self taught. Main reasons I did the course was to one gain a bit more confidence in what I was doing, sort some exposure issues out when in high contrast light and to better understand composing a good image. All these needs were ticked off as well as understanding my camera better. Also got a few tips in Lightroom editing, as well as uploading in the correct resolution and format to social media. Now it's up to me to build on what I've learnt. The small number in this group allows for good one on one time during the day. I think this is a great course for anyone to do

I did a private Lightroom workshop with Matt and it was one of the best decisions I've made for a long time. Matt knows his stuff inside out so was able to tailor our workshop to the things I particularly wanted to learn. He is easy to get on with, gives clear, uncomplicated instruction, is generous with his knowledge, and extremely helpful. As well as illuminating Lightroom, he also taught me things about my Olympus OMD-EM1 that I didn't know, despite having taken four days of expensive classes on it — a real bonus. He gives you lots of notes so you have references to hang onto, and invites you to call with any subsequent problem (does he realise what he's letting himself in for?) So I'd recommend that you stop faffing about, driving yourself crazy and cursing the technology, and give Matt a call.

what an amazing afternoon we had with Matt doing the street photography. whilst we are not beginners at photography, we came away with another layer of knowledge and insight of how to get 'the shot'. a great way of explaining the settings on your camera, and a very creative approach to getting the photo we all aspire to. wonderful Matt, we look forward to doing more with you. it is all hands on, and so much fun ! thanks so much Matt.

In one word Awesome, Matt has a way of teaching the technical side that makes sense. I learnt so much about composition, how to look at a subject in an ordinary way, then to look at other angles to take the photo from ordinary to extraordinary (with practice they will be extraordinary) His style is laid back and honest. I can't wait for the next workshop I do with Matt.

I attended Matt's travel photography workshop this week and have come away feeling much more confident with my camera + a bunch of very helpful ideas and techniques that are already making a difference to my photography. Really appreciated the bonus smartphone camera tips too because sometimes it's just easier to whip the phone out. Highly recommend, Matt is generous with his time and advice and clearly puts thought and effort into making sure everyone gets plenty from his workshops regardless of what sort of camera they have. Thanks Matt!

I just completed the Travel and Street Photography course with Matt. It was a fabulous afternoon full of theory, helpful tips, and lots of opportunity to take photos under the guidance of an experienced photographer. I felt like I learnt a lot and can't wait to get out again to practice what I learnt. I would highly recomment the course to all who have an interest in photography. Thanks Matt for an interesting and informative course.

I have just taken part in Matts "Travel & Sreet scenes" session and I can't speak highly enough of it. Matt is very patient and explains everything clearly. I learnt so much about my camera and what it's capabilities are. I look forward to putting my newly acquired knowledge into practice and I will definitely be doing another session with Matt.

I did a one-one-one workshop with Matt in the CBD, and it was well worth the investment. As well as lots of clear advice on the tech stuff that can otherwise be made over-complicated, Matt showed me how to get really interesting and surprising shots, where I ordinarily wouldn't have bothered reaching for the camera. I also got experience and needed encouragement in approaching people on the street for shots. Recommended.

Before I had even met Matt or purchased a course, he helped me choosing my underwater camera setup, free of charge. I am still extremely happy with my setup and very much value the initial advice Matt gave me. Will book on one of his courses soon.

WARNING: These courses will make you addicted to photography and how to get the best shots you can! Matt has found the perfect mix of theory (that is presented in a way that makes it less intimidating than it seems) and the practical of just getting out there and shooting - with all the support you need. As a beginner to photography, the skills I've learnt have been easily transferable to conditions/environments outside the course and I've left the workshops confident to practice by myself! The small sizes mean regardless of your experience level there is always something you can take from these workshops. I've attended the Zoo and Seascapes workshops and will no doubt book into another one soon!

Matt's seascape course is an absolute necessity to anyone who wants to learn how to use filters on their camera. Just the right amount of theroy to understand what you will need which doesn't drag out so you can do what you love. Matt takes you through all the great ideas you will need for good composition and also takes you through all the settings within you camera to get that shot you are looking for. I highly recommend this course and I could imagine all his other courses will be run in this same professional but relaxed manner.. Thanks Matt for the great day out.

Had my first 1-on-1 with Matt to kickstart my learning with the new camera. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Matt had listened to the kind of photos I took and what I found interesting, in order to design a few hours that would be most beneficial. I have much to practice and remember... will definitely be a repeat customer

Thanks Matt For a fantastic morning out at your Melbourne Zoo Workshop this week Wednesday the 14/6/17, all of your help not only with my camera settings but also on how to place your subject in the frame and to use the foreground to fill the shot was great. The photos came out great. Looking forward to another workshop with you in the future and just to let you know I purchased the Zoo membership. Many thanks Wally Lyons.
