MELBOURNE ZOO PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
LEVEL: BEGINNERS | DURATION: 3hr | COST: $149.95 inc GST (Includes Zoo Entry)
This beginner photography workshop covers a wide range of topics from composition to simplified settings and is perfect for those who are new to photography or those who want to get back to basics and perfect their understanding of how their camera works. If you’re an Auto Mode junkie this is a great chance to graduate to Program Mode where you can take control of the basics of your camera including brightness, colour and camera set up. One of the highlights of running this workshop at the Melbourne Zoo is that is gives us plenty of diversity with our subjects allowing for experimentation with settings, different lighting and an introduction to macro photography. Best of all this half-day workshop is limited to a small team of just 6 giving, so there is plenty of personalised attention relevant to your specific camera model and experience.
The Melbourne Zoo Photography Workshop includes your entry into the zoo, notes on the topics covered and I encourage you to bring your smart phone along as well in case you would like to record miniature tutorials specific to your camera! We start the morning with a short 30 minute round-table session where we get everyone up to speed on the basics and then spend the remainder of our workshop putting the learning into practice with plenty of one-on-one help making it perfect for all skill levels and camera models.
Following your workshop you will be invited to join the Matt Krumins Photography Course Collective Facebook group, giving you a safe and productive environment to continue your photography growth through both peer and instructor feedback.
This exclusive small-group workshop is your chance to revolutionise the way you see compositions and capture your photographs.

Melbourne Zoo Photography Workshop Meeting Place
The Melbourne Zoo Photography Workshop covers entry to Melbourne Zoo for the day and can also be contributed towards a full zoo membership at the end of the session. The workshop its self includes a quick reference guide to the settings and composition ideas covered.
Your workshop has a limit of just 6 people giving you plenty of one-on-one instruction as well as personal attention relevant to your camera brand and model.
Also, I believe that photography concepts take practice and time so at the conclusion of your workshop you will be invited to an exclusive online support group on Facebook where you can continue to grow your photography alongside other Matt Krumins Photography Workshop participants!
Melbourne can be a funny place when it comes to weather so regardless of the forecast I always recommend bringing a waterproof jacket as even on a sunny day Melbourne can show it’s unique ability to change on a dime! If we have minor drizzle or patchy showers we will be out shooting still as many parts of the zoo are undercover and as a bonus we will have less people to contend with!
If we do have significant forecast rain you will be invited to book onto a different workshop date that suits your schedule. A judgement call will be made 5 days out from the workshop and a further assessment the day before.
In photography we never stop learning so there is always something to take away no matter what your experience level. That said, this workshop is focused around getting beginners up and running in program mode, using exposure compensation, white balance, lens compression and camera basics.
A lot of my workshops are about how to see things rather than purely looking at the camera itself, so what you really need is a camera! That’s it! A longer zoom (telephoto lens) will definitely help you get closer shots than a standard zoom but it’s not essential to learn the basics.
If you’re just starting out this is the perfect time to get to know the ins and outs of your new camera and get off Auto mode without getting into the technical stuff.
