Gear: Do I have a new favourite camera?
So late last year I decided it was time to upgrade my second camera body, the Sony A7RIII to the brand new A7RV. My second camera bodies typically don’t get much of a workout because my flagship Sony A1 is so bloody capable it makes anything else feel a bit useless. So when I put down my $5k for this new beast I expected it to be a very expensive insurance policy in case my A1 broke down or was stolen but BOY WAS I WRONG! This cameras dynamic range (the amount of brightness information it can capture) is seriously out of control… it’s low light performance exquisite and the autofocus is to die for.. but it’s 1/2 the price of the flagship I’m used to?? So what’s going on here? If you’re on the market for an amazing camera now is the best time to be alive. With technology changing so rapidly and competition so hot between brands high end tech is trickling down into mid and lower tier cameras at a rate never seen before. I particularly LOVE the articulating screen on this new camera which allows you to position your screen at almost any angle for those awkward perspectives.
