The whole family was just a few meters back from the road shrouded in incredible autumn leaves. It's been a late season this year and the timing is perfect to photograph these grey beasts splashed in colour. One of my favourite images from our recent South Africa trip, scouting locations for my next workshop...

The sun was low on the horizon, the colour was glowing off the surface surrounding these beautiful egrets and I was on a mission for Fujifilm X GFX Australia to push the new GFX and 500mm lens to it's limits.
Whilst I love wildlife photography, birds haven't really been my 'thing' because finding unique ways to photograph them often feels limited to capturing a type of behaviour; a technique that takes more research than I'm willing to do. This slow shutter (1/10th sec) though gave me a fresh perspective on capturing these kinds of animals, a way to inject creativity into the shot and shift the focus from being a photo of a bird, to a beautiful scene.
