ARE PRIVATE SESSIONS GOOD FOR BEGINNERS?

This is a VERY commonly asked question and my answer is that everyone has different motivations to take a private lesson rather than a group course. Most of the time I believe that small group workshops are best for beginners as it gives you a little bit more time to process the learning and hear other people’s questions but if you’re unsure, give me a call and have a chat on 0402812805.

I spent a few hours with Matt going over how to use Program, Aperture and Shutter modes; histogram and how to read it; focus options on camera; generally getting to know my camera and functions better. He’s a great teacher - listening skills, reflective comment, manages expectations of what can be achieved in a session, summarises what we’ve covered. I recently did a one on one course with Matt to get an understanding of how to setup the camera for underwater shots. The lesson was informative and at a level I could understand. Cannot recommend this enough! For someone who doesn’t have an overly expensive camera (still waiting to see if I can take decent photos before buying one) this was brilliant. Matt knows about all cameras and patiently walked me through any changes with the settings to get the best shots. The street photography course has taught me so much, not just about the features on my camera, but also how to frame a shot smarter (something that normally results in me deleting most photos after I take them…)

I attended Matt's Adv Wildlife Workshop at Healesville Sanctuary yesterday. The day was well planned with mixing up theory with practice and refining my skills. I've done a few of Matt's workshops - Melbourne by Night, Travel and Street, and Advanced Wildlife. Matt is a great guy and a natural teacher, and also makes it a long of fun. I cannot recommend Matt Krummins Bright Bootcamp highly enough. Each day is filled to the brim with learning opportunities. Not a minute is wasted. On the first day you are ask what your goals are and everything mentioned on that day is covered at some stage during that week. His knowledge is second to none, and his humour and patience makes the experience even more fun. Attended Matt Krumins Photography Bootcamp conducted in and around Bright, Victoria, autumn 2024. As a beginner to intermediate photographer and an older, retired person passionate about photography, I wondered at my ability to ‘keep up’. I need not have had misgivings. I first attended Matt's Street photography course way, way, wayyyyy back in 2017, since then life got busy. I recently retired, if you can call it that and remembering how much I enjoyed Matt's course I undertook a few of his pre-recorded online courses, which were also nothing short of excellent.

Recently I booked a face to face session with Matt as I was stuck as to what to do next with my (very old, think prehistoric) camera kit!

You can read all the other reviews here, buy what strikes me about Matt is his incredible passion for photography and how important it is to him for others to really experience that.

Moreover, I was surprised after booking one of his pre-recorded courses that he insisted on refunding me the cost because "it was out of date". Honestly, it was slightly out of date at worst, so much so it made no difference! Than again, shortly after our recent one on one session, much to my surprise he rang me as he wanted to share something he had since found out with me.

This from a guy who has so many commitments.

I also must mention his referral to Nigel at Camera House in Croydon helped me no end, and saved me a few dollars as well!

I can't recommend MKP highly enough!

Matt’s teaching style is well paced and thorough. He takes the time to explain everything well to ensure we understand concepts before moving on. Matt gives us workshop notes and also a recording of zoom sessions so that we can review the sessions as many times as we want. Matt’s groups are small so we get individualised help where needed.

I did Matt's Night Course in the city on Feb 19, 2022. I found Matt very professional and extremely knowledgeble about all the different cameras everyone had. The course was a good range of skills for those with little or some knowledge. Matt continually checked on us all to make sure we were over the current skill he was showing us. Great night and well worth the dollars.
