Bring out the best in your photos with a detailed lesson in the basic editing functions in Lightroom. We cover cropping/rotate, profiles, the Basics panel, lens corrections and more.

EXPORT, SHARE, BACKUP

Set up your exporting presets and minimise clutter in your workflow whilst keeping things safe and backed up.

COURSE OUTLINE

1. Getting Set Up for Success

In this module we cover an introduction to Lightroom, why it's important, an overview on historic image processing and how to start with the best visual ingredients.

2. The Lightroom Interface

Here we cover a tour of Lightroom and how each of the interface modules work, how you will likely use them and some tips to simplify the interface.

3. Importing Images

Explore the importing interface and get set up with a good folder structure to make sure you stay organised into the future. We also look at logical ways to rename files and all of the different ways to import images into Lightroom Classic.

4. Staying Organised in Lightroom Classic

Understand how to move, rename and reconnect missing files and folders to ensure your Lightroom Catalog stays healthy into the future. We also look at using labels and star ratings to keep organised as well as some information on deleting and backing up your images and catalog.

5. Editing your Images

Get access to my demo images so you can play along at home. Discover the difference between local and global edits as well as a step-by-step through each of the basic editing functions found in the Develop Module including Crop & Rotate, Image Profiles, White Balance, Tone Tools, Presence tools, Lens Corrections, Sharpening and Noise Reduction as well as basic object removal.

6. Exporting Images

There's no point in having these skills if you can't get your work out of Lightroom and into the real world! Here we look at setting up some common presets to ensure you can show off your work.

To get the most from this online course I suggest you have an active subscription to Adobe Lightroom Classic. Please note that this is the Classic version and not the iPad/phone/mobile version.

I first attended Matt's Street photography course way, way, wayyyyy back in 2017, since then life got busy. I recently retired, if you can call it that and remembering how much I enjoyed Matt's course I undertook a few of his pre-recorded online courses, which were also nothing short of excellent.

Recently I booked a face to face session with Matt as I was stuck as to what to do next with my (very old, think prehistoric) camera kit!

You can read all the other reviews here, buy what strikes me about Matt is his incredible passion for photography and how important it is to him for others to really experience that.

Moreover, I was surprised after booking one of his pre-recorded courses that he insisted on refunding me the cost because "it was out of date". Honestly, it was slightly out of date at worst, so much so it made no difference! Than again, shortly after our recent one on one session, much to my surprise he rang me as he wanted to share something he had since found out with me.

This from a guy who has so many commitments.

I also must mention his referral to Nigel at Camera House in Croydon helped me no end, and saved me a few dollars as well!

I have operated an outdoor Theme Park by the name of Funfields for a period of about 25 years. Over the years we have used professional photographers for some really good results. However this year we enlisted the services of Matt Krummins and the results were outstanding. Matt had to work with a number of talent on the day and he did it with ease. Everyone commented on how easy going he was and how easy it was to take his directions. The main difference was Matt's composition. He captured some dynamic shots. As we know we're always after the "money shot" and if you can get one in a shoot you're doing well. In this shoot Matt was able to deliver numerous money shots. I would recommend Matt for any photography shoot and a quick look on his website will show you how diverse his talent is.

I was gifted a beginner workshop to learn more about my Nikon film camera, however discovered the course does primarily focus on digital only. BUT it was still super helpful and would recommend if you’re looking to get more info about your film camera settings, as the skills can be applied across both.

The experience itself was great, Matt was a great teacher and everything was easy to follow. The backdrop of the zoo made it super interesting, giving lots of diverse subjects to practice on.

My husband gifted me a private workshop with Matt for a special birthday — a session I could tailor entirely to my needs. As a self-taught, semi-professional photographer already working in the industry, I wasn’t even sure what I wanted to learn.
Matt was incredibly patient, down to earth, and generous with his time and expertise (with a great sense of humour too!). When you're self-taught, you often get locked into one way of doing things, but Matt offered fresh perspectives that have been invaluable.

Below is a review which I wrote after attending one of Matt's workshops in previous years. Towards the end of 2024 I enrolled again in his Travel & Street Photography where, as usual, he covered basic settings for those who required assistance while at the same time emphasing to all of the small group of six how to creatively take different kinds of shots. I also attended, for the first time, the Advanced Wildlife Photography at Healesville Sanctuary, which is one of his newer offerings. It was a great day and while a lot of the shots needed discarding, I'm sure everyone managed to produce some memorable keepers. On both occasions, Matt's favorite technique seemed to be getting down LOW but needless to say he came back up with some excellent images.

Matt's workshops are always highly enjoyable and very worthwhile. Yesterday's Real World Portraits certainly met these criteria and I felt that the other participants felt the same as I did. I attended this workshop for the second time as I wanted to practise getting quicker at making better decisions on the spot which, in turn, would produce better photos. While I still feel that I failed to do this sufficiently well in too many instances - particularly in getting clear, uncluttered backgrounds - it was a useful exercise and Matt was nearby to offer praise in a few instances (I'm not sure whether was deserved or not though) and suggestions for improvements in other cases. This is an important advantage of his small-group workshops, with only six other participants. After yeserday's experience, I feel confident enough to return to the city to photograph buskers and any other individuals with sufficient allure who are also willing to be photographed. I realise that lots and lots of practice is necessary to become a better photographer and I am grateful to Matt for what I have learned from his guided instruction at various workshops to date. I strongly recommend anyone living within commuting distance to Melbourne to take advantage of the sessions which he offers in person.

Making Sense of the 'P' :)
What an amazing day. Matt was sensational! He explained everything clearly and made the processess relatable. He introduced us to the 'P' on our cameras and explained away the 'scary' and uncertainty. I found it so educational and had many 'ah ha' moments. Thank you Matt, a fun morning followed by lots of experimenting in the afternoon as you can see by all the attached photos :)

This was not only a fun day at the zoo but Matt introduced the foundations of photography without it being overwhelming. He gave clear, good examples and explanations and there was no expectation that you knew anything prior. I am now confident that I can use my camera and I know the important features I can use to get the best from my photos. Keen to keep building on my skills. Thanks so much Matt!

I recently did a one on one course with Matt to get an understanding of how to setup the camera for underwater shots. The lesson was informative and at a level I could understand. Having now put it into practice it has made a vast improvement on my shots. Would throughly recommend Matts course.

I just completed the Travel and Street workshop with Matt and found it very enjoyable. The content was explained in an easy to understand manner and it has given me a new perspective of taking photos. Would highly recommended doing this workshop

I have just completed the portrait and lighting workshop with Matt and again it has been another exceptional workshop. Matt excels in explaining techniques which are easy to understand. The model CJ is a delight to work with and makes you feel at ease. If you are looking to learn how to make the best use of lightning I would certainly recommend the workshop.
